High Card Ranch was the vision of Jerry Hodge, built from a deep love of the land and brought to life as a place where relationships, reflection, and legacy come together. What began as a personal dream in the Texas Panhandle became a gathering place for family, friends, and business leaders to connect, think clearly, and build something meaningful. Rooted in stewardship, integrity, and the spirit of the West, High Card Ranch was created to be shared for generations to come.

A Vision Rooted in the Land. A Legacy Built to Last.

High Card Ranch began with a simple but powerful vision, one shaped by a deep love for the land and a respect for the people who live and work on it.

For Jerry Hodge, that vision was born in the rolling hills of Oklahoma, where agriculture, hard work, and cowboy culture were a way of life. From long days in the fields to dreams of the open range, he carried with him a desire to one day own a ranch, not just as a place, but as a purpose.

That dream became a reality in the Texas Panhandle.

What started as a personal retreat quickly grew into something far greater: a place where family, friends, and business partners could gather, connect, and experience the land in its truest form. Jerry didn’t just build a ranch; he built an environment where relationships could thrive and where time slowed down just enough to matter.

The name High Card Ranch comes from a story that says everything about how Jerry approached life and business. When faced with a competitive land deal, he proposed a simple solution - draw a card. High card wins the ranch. Low card walks away with $10,000. A handshake sealed it.

A bold move. A fair outcome.
A belief that the best deals are the ones where everybody wins.

Stewardship, Strength, and the Spirit of the West

High Card Ranch is grounded in the traditions of the Texas Panhandle and inspired by legends like Charles Goodnight, men who understood the land, respected its limits, and built something enduring.

Jerry carried that same philosophy forward.

The ranch was never about overgrazing or short-term gain. It was about stewardship, protecting the land, preserving its natural beauty, and ensuring its productivity for generations to come. By working with the land, not against it, High Card Ranch stands as a model of sustainability and respect for the environment.

From carefully managed grasslands to resilient Texas cattle and high-quality performance and ranch horses, every decision reflected a commitment to balance, longevity, and doing things the right way.

Where Relationships Are Built

While the land is breathtaking, it’s the people who define High Card Ranch.

Over the years, it has become a gathering place for leaders, families, and friends, a place where deals are discussed on horseback, conversations happen under star-filled skies, and trust is built the old-fashioned way: face-to-face.

Business leaders, public servants, and lifelong friends have all spent time here, drawn not just by the beauty of the ranch, but by what it represents, a return to authenticity, clarity, and connection.

Because at High Card Ranch, titles fade.
Character stands out.
And relationships come first.

 Place for Generations

At its core, High Card Ranch is about legacy.

It is the place where Jerry Hodge spent some of his most meaningful moments with his wife Margaret, his children, his friends, and the people he believed in. It’s where memories were made, lessons were learned, and values were passed down.

This ranch was his vision-
and he made it a reality for generations to come.

A place to share the love of the land.
A place to grow, reflect, and reconnect.
A place where the past, present, and future meet under one wide western sky.

The High Card Way

High Card Ranch is more than a destination.
It’s a philosophy.

• Respect the land
• Value people over transactions
• Build relationships that last
• Leave things better than you found them

And above all…

Make sure everybody wins.

After more than five decades of diligent hustling, relentless persevering and taking a few uncalculated risks, Jerry Hodge had it all. His pharmacy business had grown from a single storefront in Amarillo, Texas to a national brand worth nearly three hundred million dollars. He’d been the city commissioner and mayor for a town he loved dearly. He had a great reputation, even after being embarrassed by Oprah Winfrey on national television. After two unsuccessful marriages, he’d found Margaret, the one true love of his life. And he owned enough Panhandle ranch land to ride his horse from sun-up ‘til sun-down without seeing another soul. Life was good. But when a damning diagnosis left Jerry counting his days and saying his pre-emptive goodbyes, he began evaluating his life through a whole new lens. This book offers a look back at the lessons Jerry learned in life and business – the choices he made, the people who taught him about the meaning of integrity, his proudest achievements and the regrets that will never leave him.
